As many of our regular customers know, TAPS has been experiencing equipment shortages. Fewer buses means fewer available seats. Over the summer, the number of passengers we can serve with the Get-a-Ride service has been reduced significantly. We do not anticipate that this situation will change in the near future.
What this means is that you will need to make your ride reservation much farther in advance. Yes, the rule requires that you book your ride at least 2 business days before, but that does not mean there will be an available seat for the date and time you want to travel.
If you call today —depending on the county where you live— it could be as long as 5 weeks before a seat is available. Why? Counties with a larger population —like Collin and Grayson— have more demand overall.

Plan your trips well in advance
When you can plan your trips ahead of time you have the best chance of getting the day/date and time of day that best fits your schedule.
Medical and dental appointments are usually set weeks, or months, ahead. Get in the habit of calling the TAPS Get-a-Ride service as soon as you have that future date. You can book a trip weeks —even months— in advance. Just speak with the call center agent.
Do you need to grocery shop once a week? Have a monthly hair salon appointment? Think about using a calendar to keep track of trips you need to make on a regular basis, then book far enough in advance.
